The Mellow is my most open curve tuned to excel in broader spoon bowls. Large bowl Swedish style eating spoons, and most any cooking spoon a a pleasure to tune in with this knife. The open curve can really help guide you to a wonderfully mellow spoon bowl. A lot of begginer spoon carvers have a tendency to over hollow searching a smooth finish that gets harder and harder to achieve the deeper one gets. Open curve hooks are a wonderful way to teach a new carver that spoons aren’t measuring cups, and the bowls don’t really need to be that deep to function well. This hook wont suit all shapes, but it’s a joy when it matches the shape you’re trying to achieve. The steel is a W1 high carbon hand forged with kiln controlled heat treat and cryo post quench processing.
